WE UNDERSTAND
Some families may object to the use of modern technology in the classroom. Several reasons include overloading the teachers, unreliable information on the web and an inability to supervise and protect students from inappropriate information. I agree, we must address these concerns before we fully integrate the Internet and new software programs into the classroom. The effort is definitely worth it because the possibilities are endless!
There is so much brain research out there that shows how using a computer enhances cognitive development. At www.enhancelearning.ca it is stated that the learning process is helped in these ways.
1. communication
2. research
3. graphic organizers
4. presentation
In the last century teachers transmitted information in a direct, structured and systematic way. Everything was standardized and the same thing was expected of all the students. That was called the DIRECTED THEORY.

I want my students to be authentic learners, and acquirer knowledge in the contexts that will give this knowledge its meaning. Teachers call that Constructivism. Computers give students the opportunity to learn and fail and learn and succeed through their own experiences. The student can start out as a novice and become an expert with practice and self-motivation. To better understand these concepts go to:

I think both methods have some merit and as a teacher will be closely supervising all work and guide my student in a traditional manner. Some of the computer programs that incorporate both methods are Flash card activities. It is a basic drill and practice function a program that was developed from the “old fashion” concept of flashcards. Tutorial Software would be a great addition, because it allows students to move at their own pace, and review information that the teacher has already presented. One more great addition to any classroom would be Simulation software, which creates models that teach how different systems work.
